The Chandler Rotary Club has handed out $10,000 to
12 local charities - proceeds from a year's fundraising.

Most of the money was raised at the annual Chandler Rotary
High School track meet in March where Rotarians work
concession stands and sell programs, spokeswoman
Charmain Gudgeon said. The recipient groups serve Chandler
and represent "a cross-section of what non-profits are doing here, from animals and child-abuse prevention to
health care," she said.

The city's oldest service club started in 1934 and has a history of giving to good causes, Gudgeon said. Beginning
last year, the 39-member group opened donations to all local non-profits and started accepting grant applications,
she said. Checks were distributed last week.

The largest grants for $1,500 went to Improving Chandler Area Neighborhoods for youth programs and the
Chandler/Gilbert YMCA for its "Strong Kids" promotion. The Desert Cancer Foundation received $1,200 for
men's health screening. Three organizations got $1,000: San Marcos Health Center for lobby improvements,
Neighbors Who Care for van service, and Boy Scouts for general programs. Allocations of $300 to $800 went to
Chandler Historical Museum, Chandler Education Foundation, Assistance League, Gabriel's Angels, Chandler
Symphony and Catholic Health Care West Foundation.

Gudgeon said Catholic Health Care will use the money to provide oral hygiene for the disadvantaged and Gabriel's
Angels to fund a pet-therapy program.

"Rotary is just one of many Chandler services clubs that are giving to the community," she said. Information:
